    North China Electric Power University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and a key construction university of the national "Project 211" and "Project 985 Superior Discipline Innovation Platform". In 2017, the university entered the ranks of national "double first-class project" construction universities, focusing on the construction of energy and electric power science and engineering subject groups, and fully opened a new journey to build a world-class discipline and high-level research university.

    The university was founded in 1958 in Beijing as Beijing Institute of Electric Power. It has long been under the administration of the state power department. In 2003, It was transferred to the Ministry of Education. It is currently operated by State Grid Corporation Limited, China Southern Power Grid Corporation Limited, China Huaneng Group Limited, China Datang Group Limited, China Huadian Group Limited, National Energy Investment Group Limited, State Power Investment Group Limited, China Three Gorges Corporation Limited, China General Nuclear Power Corporation Limited, China Power Construction Corporation Limited, China Energy Construction Group Co., LTD., Guangdong Energy Group Co., Ltd. and 12 super large power groups and the council of China Electricity Council and the Ministry of Education jointly. The school is located in Beijing, with a separate Baoding campus and integrated management in both places. At present, the university has more than 3,000 faculty members, 24,000 full-time undergraduates and 12,000 graduate students. The school covers an area of more than 1,600 acre, with a building area of more than 1 million square meters.
